HOW TO COPE WITH MID-LIFE CRISIS
If you are having a midlife crisis and are stuck in a rut and want to change but don’t know how, or if you have reached the menopause and feel your life is over and your body is changing shape, you have hot flushes and are gaining weight;
Ageing doesn’t mean waving goodbye to style and individuality. The forties onwards are when we can really begin to enjoy ourselves. At this stage in our lives, it’s okay to start spending more time on ourselves.
Here are some useful tips to help with a midlife crisis.
1. Invest any extra time and money on beauty and body MOT’s and it will pay dividends. Go to the hairdresser regularly, have manicures and pedicures and treat yourself to a massage. This may feel overindulgent, but it’s not. It’s about taking extra care of yourself, you deserve it!
2. As we get older our skin becomes drier and needs more looking after, so it is important in include the neck and décolletage whenever we moisturize. Remember, every wrinkle tells a story, among them are the laughter lines, which crinkle when a woman smiles, and those are wonderful. They add character and depth to a woman’s face. There is nothing worse than a blank, overly botoxed face with no expression.
3. We should all know by now that drinking water is one of the best things we can do for our skin. It is not just how we keep our skin hydrated that matters but also how we use the right products to give it a healthy glow. Covering your skin with heavy foundation is the most ageing thing you can do. The older you are the less make-up you should look like you are wearing, but not wearing any make-up at all can leave you looking tired. Even the most beautiful women in the world rely on clever make-up tricks to enhance their looks.
4. Remember as we get older we need our beauty sleep even more. A good night’s sleep leaves us feeling rested, revived and full of beans. It is, without any doubt, one of the best things you can do to help you feel good and make you look better. While sleeping, skin expels toxins and builds collagen and new cells. If you find it hard to get to sleep, try reading in bed or watching TV, that usually works.
5. As we get older one of the things that changes is our hair. It usually gets finer and turns grey. A trip to the hairdresser can be so transforming, not only for your mood, but for its ability to add a level of elegance to the overall vision of a woman, regardless of our age, what we are wearing or what size we are. It can boost your confidence instantly. If you look good, you feel good! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t have long hair when you get past a certain age; as long as you have a good cut that suits your face then anything goes, there is nothing more elegant than a woman with pulled hair.
6. Dark colours especially black, can help hide your lumps and bumps. We all feel safe with black and dark colours, but let’s not forget bright colours too, even if it is for accessories only. As you get older it is safer to stick to subtle prints or block colours. Stripes are tricky too, and horizontal stripes should be avoided if you are top heavy. On the other hand vertical stripes in trousers can be very flattering.
7. If there’s anywhere on a woman’s body that ages in a very frustrating way, it has to be the upper arms. Concealing the arms is sexy and becomes more so the older we get. One of the best tricks is to ditch the short sleeved t-shirts and replace them with just-to-the-elbow ones. If you’re going out and don’t want to show your upper-arm problem area, wear a shrug or a sequined shawl or top over your dress.
Hope this has been of some help to you with your midlife crisis. Remember being over 40 doesn’t mean you can’t look as good as you did when you were 20 or 30, it’s just about adapting to your new body shape and finding what suits you now and enjoy this new chapter in your life and learn to love the new you.
