HOW TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF WHEN YOU ARE OVER 40
If you want to feel good about yourself when you’re over 40, make turning 40, 50 or beyond something to celebrate, it’s not the end of life as you know it, merely a new chapter in your life and the beginning of a new you.
Knowing what your flaws and assets are is a crucial part of looking your best. Many of us underestimate the importance of body assessment. We forget the fact that our bodies have changed over the years. Faddish diets, pregnancy, exercise or lack of it has left us with bodies we no longer recognise. So however painful it might be, it is essential you know your bad bits in order to be able to improve them or disguise them.
One time when a woman must re-evaluate her shape is during menopause. The most common change is a thickening of the waist, so use layering, it enables you to hide the bits you don’t like, or want to draw the eye away from. Wear a waistcoat over a loose shirt with a pair of jeans or trousers. Embrace softer lines, wear something velvety or add another layer to your look. It’s one of the ways in which you can create a clever optical illusion.
You must learn to accept your figure at every stage of your life. Only when you accept your body shape will you be ready to move on. This is not easy but it is the first step to the new you.
Go and have a new hair cut or colour or both! Cheer yourself up with trying new things, new looks; there is something out there for everyone. Join a dance class or a yoga class, you will benefit from the results. Most importantly, have a good look at your diet – remember, you are what you eat! Experiment with new recipes and foods.
So don’t think about it any more – start right now and enjoy feeling good about yourself now you are over 40.
